
GETTING INVOLVED AT SCHOOL This section deals with the mothers and fathers ‘ responsibility to participate in the school itself. When parents participate in the school’s life, good things follow. Children tend to have better grades and less behavioral problems. They’re often more happy with their parents. They see that mom and dad value education seriously. Participation helps parents understand how the school works and what the jobs of teachers are. It helps them know what their children are taught. Sometimes being visible in school gives parents more credibility in the eyes of teachers and principals and thus a stronger voice in shaping school policy and the experience of their own children. Despite these advantages, many parents have poor records when it comes to school participation. They seldom know the teachers or attend school. They often say they have no time or fear that they don’t have much to contribute. They sometimes feel intimidated or unwelcome in class. These are certainly real concerns, but the fact remains that they may be hampering their children’s academic opportunities by absent from school.
